El Salvador
A little about El Salvador's Recent History
El Salvador (Spanish for The Savior) is a small Central American country of just 6 million people. It is a lush, tropical nation nestled between Guatemala, Honduras and the Pacific Ocean. El Salvador suffered a devastating Civil War in the 1980s and early 1990s which caused most of its people to became refugees. Since the war, El Salvador has been in a period of reconstruction. We have seen political and economic reforms, a return to the rule of law and a peace process that continues today. Today, El Salvador is ready to move forward to a new future. It is against this backdrop that Lutheran Youth Impact was born. |
